The first six (6) months I played "Robocop", not distinguishing between "the letter of the law and the intent of the law",
upsetting quite a few folks. I even had the misguided perception that MAC(SW) Richard D. Holmes, my supervisor, had sold out
to politics. I paid for that remark through my evaluations and no support for awards for my accomplishments. I learned the
hard way.

1 month prior transfer, I was sent to Captain's Mast (Article 15) by my
immediate supervisor (EMC Oliver L. Appleton, an E-7, not a Chief. Brilliant electrician, though - most
knowledgeable one I ever served with) who told the Captain I was a "threat" to his
career.
Charges dismissed as bogus by Commanding Officer. I believe I had earned
another Navy Achievement Medal and an End of Tour Navy Commendation Medal
but never received them. I learned later they were awarded to the same E-7, EMC Oliver L. Appleton.
This E-7, EMC Oliver L. Appleton, repeatedly stated publicly to other crewmembers about
how incompetent and ignorant all "white" electricians were, while all the Filipino
electrician's he'd served with were outstanding.
"Closet Racist" but no one
ever put it together - he was so smooth we thought he was helping as he
methodically destroyed each caucasian electrician's career.
